Another Year

The years just come and go so quickly and life goes with it.  Another year, another year older. But before this year goes you have to stop and think and ask yourself, “What did I accomplish this year?” So many people make New Year’s resolutions, because it is important to take that time and consider your life.  How else can you gain wisdom? If you don’t, you will keep repeating the same mistakes. You have to ask yourself,  “Did I make the right decisions?”  “Have I gone forwards or backwards in life?” “Maybe I need to change course.” We cannot just float along in life and think that everything will just fall in place. If a change needs to be made then change it without delay. You know, you can’t turn a ship around in an instance. Some things take time, and the longer we wait, the more time it takes, until you get to the point when it is too late to change or the opportunity has passed you by.  Here is a great song by Michael Jackson called the “Man in the Mirror” Here are just a few lines of this great song. “I’m gonna make a change for once in my life. It’s gonna feel real good, gonna make a difference, gonna make it right. I’m starting with the man in the mirror. I’m asking him to change his ways and no message could have been any clearer if you wanna make the world a better place. Take a look at yourself and then make a change. You gotta get it right while you got the time.  ‘Cause when you close your heart (you can’t), then you close your mind.” A new year is a new beginning, a new chance, a new start. Take the opportunity and don’t just make New Year’s resolutions, but make a positive change in the new year. Find the road that leads to a real life and start down that road to meet the challenges that will come with anything new. But then, anything of any value is worth the challenge. See how far it will take you in life and when the next year ends you can turn around and look back and say, “I made the right decisions”  Take a good hard look in the mirror today and see what looks back at you. Ask yourself, “Am I a person that will lend a helping hand to someone in need?” “Am I a person who others can depend on?” Or, “Do I only live for me and what I want?”  We need to be people who are good citizens and good neighbors and good co-workers. A real asset to society. Yes, you can be all of this if you really want to be. No handicap can stop you from being a person who looks into the mirror and says, “I’m going to make it right. I’m gonna love those around me and help those who need a helping hand. I’m going to talk to my neighbor and tell them I am here if they need my help.”  When we say , “Happy New Year” then let’s make it just that, a happy new year.
