Today very few people will take a moment to see or hear, or even think about the fact that God loves them. You may say that there is no God, or what has God done for me? Well , if He was your friend you would know. God loves you, if you believe it or not, He does. We think of February as the month of love. We send cards or buy gifts for those we love, and we want to spend time with them, especially on Valentines Day. It’s nice to take time from our busy day to stop and think about those we love and those who love us. And yet, we do not even know what God has done for us because we do not know the Lover of our soul. The Bible tells us that God so loved us that He sent His only begotten Son to die for us. The world today is what it is because of sin, because of evil forces, because people today hate and do not love. His Son died so that we could have the freedom to do what is right, and what is right is to love one another. To love one another does not mean you send a check to a non- profit. No, it means that you take the time to reach out to someone who is in need of love. Someone who may need a place to live or food to eat. Maybe someone needs a job or a ride to get to a job. Maybe someone just needs a friend. Can you take that step? Can you reach out to someone like that? If you can, then you are closer to God than you think. When you die to yourself to touch another soul you are following in the footsteps of God’s Son. Maybe there is someone at school or at work or on your block that is alone or is considered to be an outcast or a reject, even though there is no one that is a reject. Go and put out your hand in friendship and you will find God. Love is not for a day or a month but for a lifetime. The one you stop to love could be the person that you have saved from becoming a statistic. If you are reading this and you say, “that is me”, then I say this, you are never alone in life because God loves you more than you know. Reach out to Him and He will take hold of your hand. He never leaves those who call on Him.
Do cards and candy really show love? Touching a life that needs to be touched, now that is real love and God, who never forgets, will remember your act of love. It can be hard for a person to say “I love You,” but there are other ways of saying it, and that is by your unselfish acts of love toward those who need to hear those words in one way or another. Talk can be cheap, but actions speak louder than words.
Here is a great song sung by Bill Withers called Lean on Me.
“You just call on me brother when you need a hand. We all need somebody to lean on. I just might have a problem that you’ll understand. We all need somebody to lean on. Lean on me when you’re not strong and I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on…”
