Today, like the last fifty plus years, abortion has been a big topic. The only thing is that now we have ultrasound equipment that can show us the growth of the baby, which we did not have back then. This has deterred some women from having an abortion, because they can see for themselves that what is inside them is truly a baby, but still there are so many others who really could care less. So let’s look at what an abortion really is. There are different types of abortion. If you are early in having your abortion you may have what is called a Medication Abortion, in which you take a pill, and a day or two later you take another pill, and then you’re good to go. If you are further along in your time then you will need an Aspiration Abortion or a Suction Abortion or they may do a DE, Dilation and Extraction. So what does this all mean?
According to Charlotte Lozier Institute These particularly gruesome surgical techniques involve crushing, dismemberment and removal of a fetal body. In some cases, especially when the fetus is past the stage of viability, the abortion may involve administration of a lethal injection into the fetal heart in utero to ensure that the fetus is not pulled out alive or with the ability to survive. “The current standard of medical care calls for unborn babies to receive pain medication during fetal surgery starting at 15 weeks. In fact, modern 3D and 4D ultrasound enables us to see an unborn baby cry and grimace when receiving that injection of pain medicine in utero. Their behavior is just like other kids when they get a shot at the pediatrician’s office.” Late-term abortion is not an exact medical term, but it has been used at times to refer to surgical Dilation & Evacuation (dismemberment) abortions as well as Intact Dilation & Extraction (partial-birth) abortions performed in the second (13-27 weeks) and third (27-39 weeks) trimesters. The graphic, unpalatable nature of abortion procedures performed on fetuses of such advanced gestation raises many objections, even among parties who might support abortion at earlier stages. For these reasons, and because of the increased short-term health risks of these procedures for women, numerous states have considered limiting late-term abortion procedures after 20 weeks gestation. The actual number of surgical abortions performed after 20 weeks in the United States cannot be known due to a lack of national reporting. CDC projections, based largely on voluntary state reporting and abortion provider survey data from the Guttmacher Institute, a former affiliate of Planned Parenthood, estimate that roughly 1%, or over 15,000, abortions are performed after 20 weeks annually in the U.S. Thus, advocates of the women and unborn children affected by these procedures take great interest in mitigating the circumstances that drive women to seek late-term abortions.
Though this number is an estimate; the numbers most likely are higher. But what about the baby being torn apart? It must feel great pain as it is dying. They have determined that a baby’s heart begins as early as 5-6 weeks. So they know that the fetus is alive. According to The Ethic and Religious Liberty Commission A pro-life and a pro-choice researcher came together to jointly address the updated evidence for fetal pain. One author believes that abortion is unethical, and the other believes that abortion is “necessary for women’s health and autonomy.” (this is another way of saying that it is an inconvenience for the woman’s life) While they drew different moral implications of fetal pain existing in an earlier gestational age, they were able to agree that fetal pain does exist in a gestational window of 12-24 weeks. Previously, most scientists and medical professionals, including the two researchers of this study, believed that pain could be felt at 22 weeks’ gestational age/20 weeks fetal age. This new study reconsiders that claim, and makes the case for pain being felt at an earlier gestational age. Stuart W.G. Derbyshire and John C. Bockmann states, “Overall, the evidence, and a balanced reading of the evidence, points towards an immediate and unreflective pain experience mediated by the developing function of the nervous system as early as 12 weeks.” Now we can assume rightfully that 12-24 weeks is where these two researchers could agree, so this is not necessarily the case. Most likely it is even early in time. In total, a baby’s heart beats about 54 million times between fertilization and birth. The Lozier Institute goes on to say during this time a baby responds to light touches over most of the body. If something touches the palm of the baby’s hand, the baby will bend his or her fingers as if to grasp the object. Neurotransmitters specific to pain processing appear between 10- and 14-weeks gestation. The spinal nerves needed to transmit pain to the thalamus have formed by 15 weeks’ gestation. In 1985 the Washington Post wrote an article about a movie that was called “The Silent Scream,” the movie shows a suction abortion of a 12-week-old fetus as portrayed on a sonogram, which consists of computer-reconstructed images of echoes from high frequency sound waves aimed at the uterus. Abortion opponents compare the 28-minute film to television footage of starving children in Ethiopia and say they hope that it will have the same impact on the hearts — and votes — of American viewers. “A picture’s worth a thousand words, and this says it all . . . Any child that’s sucking its thumb is more than a blob of tissue,” said Kathleen C. Sweet, executive director of the group, which is hosting a screening for Maryland politicians Feb. 19 in Annapolis. Abortion rights activists, while grudgingly impressed by the publicity “The Silent Scream” has generated, complain that it is inaccurate and misleading, particularly the narration describing the fetus’ actions during the abortion. Some medical experts also have charged that the description of the fetus experiencing pain and trying to escape the abortion instruments is not based on medical fact.
And why wouldn’t they complain? It brings in big money to doctors and clinics and of course it is an easy way to rid yourself of an inconvenience. There are many side effects to an abortion, even though they tell you that this is not so. But it is true because that is why they fight so hard to keep it legal, again the money and yes, the control. According to the Louisiana Dept of Health you should know that women experience different emotions after an abortion. Some women may feel guilty, sad or empty, while others may feel relief that the procedure is over. Some women have reported serious psychological effects after their abortion, including depression, grief, anxiety, lowered self-esteem, regret, attachment, flashbacks and substance abuse. These emotions may appear immediately after an abortion or gradually over a longer period of time. These feelings may recur or be felt stronger at the time of another abortion, or a normal birth, or on the anniversary of the abortion. Counseling or support before and after your abortion is very important. If family help and support are not available to you, it may be harder for you to deal with the feelings that appear after an abortion. Talking with a professional counselor before having an abortion can help a woman better understand her decision and the feelings she may experience after the procedure. If counseling is not available to the woman, these feelings may be more difficult to handle. Many pregnancy-resource centers offer pre- and post-abortion counseling services; these centers are listed in the resource directory. I know people who have had an abortion, and I can tell you it affected them the rest of their lives. But they will tell you that everything is OK! But God calls it MURDER! Thou shall not take another’s life. In Leviticus 24:17 God says this, “Whoever takes the life of any human being shall be put to death.” This is why we have the death penalty in many states. But we got around this topic of murder because we say, “It is not a baby, but a fetus, or just tissue.” But today we know better because we have the equipment to show us that this is a baby and when it is born it is a baby and we know that we can no longer hide behind a lie. Most abortions are the result of immorality, a sin in which we do not want to give up. We protest in the streets against war, and we cry injustice, crimes against humanity, and then we run to a clinic to kill a child. It doesn’t matter if a person cuts off a baby’s head or burns it alive, because we are doing the same thing when we are having an abortion.
