Life, What’s It all About?

Everyone asks themselves at least once, “What is life all about?” Life is made up of so many different events, childhood, adolescence, young adult,  mid-life, old life, no life. We go through so many different stages. It’s like the good, the bad and the ugly. Happy times and sad times. The Bible tells us that there is a time for everything under the sun. The high times are so happy and the low times are so sad. Life is really one big roller coaster ride. What can a person do? How can a person cope? Dionne Warwick asks the question in her song called Alphie: “What’s it all about Alphie is it just for the moment we live?”

Some people do live life moment by moment. But why can some people handle life without a problem and then there are those who struggle with every problem that comes their way? How you view life makes a big difference. Do you believe in the hereafter? Do you believe in a Supreme Being? Maybe you believe that once you are dead, you are dead.

This song was sung by the great Peggy Lee called: Is That All There Is? “Is that all there is? I know what you must be saying to yourselves. If that’s the way she feels about it why doesn’t she just end it all? Oh, no, not me. I’m not ready for that final disappointment because I know just as well as I’m standing here talking to you that when that final moment comes and I’m breathing my last breath I’ll be saying to myself: Is that all there is? Is that all there is? If that’s all there is, my friend, then let’s keep dancing.”

So many times we think that we can not go it alone or that if someone leaves us, then we will fall apart. That brings me to another song sung by Gloria Gaynor called: I Will Survive. “At first I was afraid, I was petrified thinking I could live without you by my side and after spending nights thinking how you did me wrong I grew strong and I learned how to get along. Think I’d crumble? You think I’d lay down and die? I will survive, I will survive.”

When we think that we can not go on guess again, because we can!  Life is not dependent on anyone but ourselves. We are born alone and we die alone, unless we believe and live for those things that are eternal. Only we can decide. Only we can pick ourselves up by the bootstraps and say, “YES I can” You may say “easier said than done.” But that is what life is all about. If we love one another, if we help one another, if we reach out to one another, we are taking our eyes off ourselves and putting them on someone else’s problem, causing us to forget about our own and this allows us to keep going forward. Everything heals in time, at least in time it becomes less to carry. This is true for everyone. We all are here living life and, we more or less, are all in the same boat. I’m looking after you and you are looking after me and together we are going to survive.
