Regrets

I don’t know one person alive that has no regrets. We spend so much time looking backwards at our failures, our shortcomings and even our regrets. If only I would have said this or done that or went here instead of there. Why did I get angry? Why did I walk away? Failed relationships that didn’t need to fail. Jobs that didn’t need to end. Those things I could have said while they were still alive. Everyone has regrets about one thing or another. Yet, we continue to punish ourselves as we remember over and over again. In fact these regrets can actually begin to break us down, ruin our health and even get us to the point where we no longer want to live. The worst is when someone passes away,  bad enough  through a natural death, but when suicide plays a role it become too hard to take. The what if’s become louder and more often. We can never second guess if those what if’s would have made a difference. The would of, should of, could of,  no one can tell if that would have made a difference. Well, if I see a doctor, maybe they can help me. If I see a therapist, maybe they can help me or a good friend I can trust. Nothing is to say that any of these people will be able to help you, because you have to help yourself.  Suicide is never the answer to a problem. That will only cause others to have regrets.

Here is a great song from Whitney Houston called “I Look To You”. “About to lose my breath there’s no more fighting left. Sinking to rise no more. Searching for that open door and every road that I’ve taken, led to my regret, and I don’t know if I’m gon’ make it. Nothing to do but lift my head. I look to You. I look to You, and when all my strength is gone, in You I can be strong. I look to You.”

There is only One you can turn to when you have regrets and that is God. If your regret is with a person that has passed on, no psychic,  no fortune teller, no person who claims they can speak to the dead can help you, only God who hears your prayers and knows your heart.

Psalm 139 says this, “Where could I go to get away from Your Spirit?  Where could I go to escape Your Presence? If I went up to heaven, You would be there.  If I went down to the grave, You would be there too!”

If God is everywhere, then He can make things right. A good thing to follow is this: If you become angry with someone, don’t let the sun go down in your anger, because no one knows if they will see tomorrow. It saves you from having any regrets. If you should have, then do it, if you could have, then do it, if you would have then do it. Never let anything or anyone stop you from doing the right thing.

Loving one another always keeps you from having regrets. When you give those regrets to God, He helps you to love yourself.
