Love has a different meaning to everyone you ask today.
Things like for better or for worse, do not hold with so many people. We have seen our grandparents stick by each other for 50, 60 even 70 years. It truly was till death do us part. We look at things differently today, we don’t want to be committed to anyone or anything. We want to be free to come and go as we please. It’s a new generation and a new way of living and thinking. It’s about me and not we. But so many people are suffering within. They feel alone, because they can not speak and tell those around them just what is going on inside their head. People are isolated and lonely and even fearful. I’m talking about young people, people who have not lived long enough to have experienced life to the fulness. If you speak and people do not agree then you are canceled. If you do not look or act quite like the crowd, then you are bullied. Friendship is based on certain requirements and if you do not follow the rules, you can’t play the game.
But I love the song by Rachel Platten: “Stand By You” because I think it speaks about truth and true love.

When was the last time you extended your hand in friendship? When was the last time you stood up for someone and no matter what came your way, you were not going to walk away?

We must learn to feel people’s pain. We must have compassion in our hearts. Integrity of heart is a heart that is not divided. I’m with you when we are alone, but when others are around then I become a chameleon and my loyalty changes. So many people need true love. So many people are considering suicide, they turn to drug and alcohol to ease their pain. Will you stand with them?

Are you willing to give of yourself? Are you willing to let yourself be used to be leaned on? No, we can not be a crutch or a bandage to others, but what we must do is to bring healing to one’s soul. We must bring love to one another, true love, selfless love. 1 Corinthians 13 tells us all about true love. Love that does not seek its own benefit, love that does not keep score, love that guards the secret of the heart. Love that will not fail.

Today, you have to decide who you really are, not who your friends want you to be, but who you know you ought to be. If you don’t take a stand today, tomorrow you may be the one who will need someone to stand with you.
