What Kind of Eyes Do You Have?

Our eyes are important, without them we could not see. Yes, you may say,  that is obvious. But do we ever think about people who can not see? Think about what they miss, because they do not see. They miss the beauty of nature and they miss the beauty in people’s faces when they experience joy. Can you really relate to someone who is going through sorrow if you can’t see their faces?  Eyes are so important. Remember Little Red Riding Hood said: “What big eyes you have grandma” And the wolf replied, “All the better to see you with my dear.” We take our eyes for granted. They truly are a gift. Here is a verse from the poem Eyes are the Window to the Soul by Vern Eaker.

Eyes are the windows to the soul throughout my life I’ve been told.

To see into another’s heart the eyes are the place to start.

So can you really see into a person’s soul and see their emotions and thoughts by looking into their eyes? The Bible says this,  “Your eyes are windows into your body. If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a musty cellar. If you pull the blinds on your windows, what a dark life you will have!”

Many people can not even look into another person’s eyes because of their guilt or shame, this alone is a reflection of their heart. Yes, eyes are for seeing, but do we really see with our eyes? I mean can we tell ourselves that we are seeing something that really isn’t there or can we tell ourselves that we are seeing what we want to see? Maybe we look the other way when we don’t want to believe what we are seeing or even if we don’t want to be accountable for what we are seeing.  Here is a good song that says it all from the

Little River Band called Blinded Eyes.

“Old lady in the street ain’t here no more. Got robbed last week at her own front door. No one saw her fall and no one heard her cry. Everyone there just turned a blind eye. Blind eyes are weak, blind eyes are cruel. Look out for number one, survival’s the rule. Look straight ahead on a one-way street. Let sleeping dogs lie, just turn a blind eye”

The term “Let a sleeping dog lie” means  leave a matter or incident alone then you will have no problems.

Is that what people see when they look into your eyes? If my eyes tell all then does my heart speak all? Out of the heart one speaks the Bible tells us. Do your eyes speak love, love from your heart or do we see with our eyes nothing but judgment? I mean, do we judge someone without getting the truth? The eyes play an important part in our lives and how we see things and each other. Let’s make sure that our eyes are not blinded eyes or lying eyes or even closed eyes. But they are wide open, full of light and not darkness, love and not hate, mercy and not judgement. No sleeping dogs here.
